Here's every concert I've been to that I can think of. This of course
neglects countless smaller shows by groups that you've probably never heard
of. Shows marked with a asterisk are shows I saw with Marjorie.
- The Police/The Animals/The Fixx, Orlando Citrus Bowl.
My first concert. 1984.
- Big Country/Wire Train, St. Petersburg Bayfront Center.
My second, and probably all-time favorite concert. 1984.
- The Clash, Orlando Jai Alai fronton. After Mick Jones
left. One of my favorite bands, but disappointing.
- Husker Du, Orlando Sleep Out Louie's. I still have a
scar from this one.
- Modern English, Melbourne (Florida)Florida Institute of
Technology. They DO have more than one song, you know.
- TSOL/The Not, Orlando Sleep Out Louie's. TSOL gets
blown away by their opening band.
- Ramones/Corrosion of Conformity, Tampa Janus Landing.
The start of a concert tradition for me.
- Ramones, Orlando Visage. Late 80's sometime.
- Ramones, Orlando Visage. And again.
- U2, Tampa Tampa Stadium. My very last big show.
Squint and you can almost make out Bono. This was on the
Joshua Tree tour.
- Violent Femmes, Orlando Visage. Very much fun.
- Midnight Oil, Orlando Visage. Excellent show. Following
their "Diesel and Dust" album.
- The Mighty Lemon Drops, Orlando Visage. Good show.
- The Mighty Lemon Drops/John Wesley Harding/Ocean Blue, Orlando Visage.
And again.
- Book of Love, Orlando Visage. Yawn.
- Iggy Pop/Jane's Addiction, Orlando Visage. Iggy was
awesome. Jane's was unknown at the time, but very good.
- Jane's Addiction/Suicidal Tendencies, Orlando Eddie Graham
Sports Center. The sound sucked, but still a pretty good
show. Following the release of Ritual de lo Habitual.
- Red Hot Chili Peppers, Orlando Visage. Great show.
- Red Hot Chili Peppers, Orlando Visage. And again. This
time they wore diapers on stage.
- Big Audio Dynamite II/Public Image Limited/Live/Blind Melon,
Orlando The Edge. Fun.
- Camper Van Beethoven, Orlando Beach Club. The layout
of the Beach Club at the time was such that only about 20 people
could actually see. I was one -- good show.
- Fetch 'N Bones, Orlando Beach Club. Not bad. Nothing
special.
- Fetch 'N Bones, Orlando Beach Club. And again.
- Smashing Pumpkins, Orlando Beach Club. In a tiny club
where it was about 150 degrees inside. This was the tour following
the release of Gish. Awesome.
- Smashing Pumpkins, Orlando The Edge. After they made
it big, following the release of Siamese Dream. Still a good
show.
- Fugazi, Orlando The Edge. 'A' for energy, but I'm
underwhelmed by Fugazi's songwriting.
- Dead Milkmen, Orlando Decades. Very entertaining.
- Dead Milkmen, Orlando Beacham Theatre. Not very
entertaining. The Dead Milkmen aren't very tolerable when you
can't hear the lyrics.
- Sonic Youth, Orlando Beacham Theatre. Unimpressive.
- Hoodoo Gurus, Orlando Beacham Theatre. On the
Another World Tour. Great show.
- Primus/Fishbone, Orlando Beacham Theatre. Primus was
okay, Fishbone forgettable.
- The Cramps, Orlando Beacham Theatre. Excellent, bizarre
show.
- The Stray Cats, Orlando Beacham Theatre. Laugh if you
must. This was a great show. Brian Setzer is my guitar hero.
- Smithereens, Orlando Univ. of Central Florida. Pretty
good show. Adam Sandler, the Saturday Night Live comedian, opened
the show with a comedy bit. He bombed.
- Lollapalooza I (Jane's Addiction/Siouxshie and the Banshees/Ice
T/Jesus and Mary Chain et al), Orlando State
Fairgrounds. Still the best of the series.
- Lollapalooza II (Red Hot Chili Peppers/Ministry/Pearl Jam/et al),
Orlando State Fairgrounds.
Not bad, all in all. I don't recommend moshing in a sandy, gritty
pit when you have a severe sunburn, though.
- Ramones/Frank Black, Atlanta Roxy. This was on the day
that Kurt Cobain died -- there was a strange pall in the air.(1994)
- Crowded House/Sheryl Crowe, Atlanta Roxy. CH puts on
a show not to be missed. Sheryl Crowe actually wasn't too bad.
(1994)
- Elvis Costello/Crash Test Dummies, Atlanta Chastain Park.
EC is probably my all-time favorite, but the venue absolutely
sucked. EC, come back, but play at the Fox. (1994)
- Paul Weller, Munich Muffathalle. Awesome. I lucked
out while in Germany. (Nov 1994)
- They Might Be Giants, Atlanta Variety Playhouse.
Bought tickets because Frank Black was supposed to open. When he
cancelled, I went anyway and was pleasantly surprised. (Dec 1994)
- Weezer, Atlanta Masquerade.
Good power pop. Cold. (March 1995)
- Frank Black, Atlanta Masquerade.
Pretty fun. (March 1996)
- Midtown Music Festival, Atlanta. Black Crowes, Poe, Lisa
Loeb, Cracker, et al. Whatever. (May 1996)
